CASTLES OF FVG

PART 1

FROM MUGGIA TO GRADISCA D'ISONZO

PART 2

FROM GORIZIA TO VENZONE, PASSING THROUGH CIVIDALE

These days the only possible trip is the virtual one, even if, as in this case, we are talking about out-of-town trips, to discover the beauties of our region, which are many, often little known and fascinating. Like our castle heritage: more than one hundred castles among fortresses, manors (some magnificent and well preserved, if not inhabited others ruined), which tell the story of a border, limen and bridge between different powers and different cultures since the dawn of time. This first episode, about a quarter of an hour, presents a general overview, from the Castellieri to the magnificent Palmanova, and then describes the castles from Muggia to Gradisca d'Isonzo, passing through that pearl overlooking the Adriatic which is Duino. The next will depart from Gorizia to reach another wonderful medieval fortification, the town of Venzone. The videos were made by journalist Antonio Devetag.

Another video for those who want to fly VIRTUALLY over the history and beauty of our region through its countless castles. After the castles of Venezia Giulia, from Muggia to Gradisca d'Isonzo, here is this second video, signed by Antonio Devetag, which presents a journey from Gorizia to Venzone, passing through the beautiful Cividale, with many surprises, often little known.

PART 3

FROM UDINE TO VILLALTA

In this third video of Gorizia3.0 made by Antonio Devetag here are the magnificent Friulian castles of the morainic amphitheatre around Udine. And it is from the metropolis of Friuli that we leave for a tour of the manors in which the fascinating history of our territories is inscribed. From the terrible Shrove Thursday that in 1511 saw the factions of the Zamberlani and Strumieri, the friends of the Serenissima opposing those of the Habsburgs, face each other. A story that bloodied Friuli and that had as protagonists the Savorgnan nobles against the Della Torre family. But you will also see, passing through the magnificent San Daniele, the castles of Cassacco, Moruzzo, Susans, to get to that incredible archetype of the medieval castle that is the manor of Villalta, where the gloomy events of one of the most controversial characters of the Friulian eighteenth century will be told: the noble and wild Lucio Della Torre, executed in the first half of the eighteenth century by the sadly famous "Hangman of Ljubljana" after being arrested together with his cousin in Farra d'Isonzo.

PART 4

FROM THE MOUNTAINS TO THE SEA, VIA SPILIMBERGO AND STRASSOLDO

From the mountains to the sea, from Tarvisio to Marano Lagunare passing through some beautiful castles in the Pordenone area, with that architectural jewel that dominates Spilimbergo and Zoppola. As far as the pearl of Friuli, very close to Cervignano: Strassoldo, a charming fortified village, embellished by resurgence waters, still today owned by the nobles of the same name. A video by Antonio Devetag ending with footage from the sky of the very emblem of the defensive works of Friuli Venezia Giulia - but also worldwide - that is the incredible nine-pointed star of Palmanova, an architectural and urbanistic masterpiece of the 17th century, which the Serenissima declared to build to face the invasions of the Turks but in reality as a deterrent against the Habsburgs.
