Assirelli Giuseppe (1950 - 1998)
Born in Parma in 1950, Giuseppe Assirelli moved with his family to Gorizia as a child in 1959. He began to photograph at a very young age, exhibiting his first photographs when he was only eighteen. Master of Italian photography, he obtained many national and international awards, excelling in sports photography, art photography, portrait photography (in which he was a master in "interpreting" the person) and aerial photography (of particular impact his images of Gorizia from the sky). He was one of the founding members of the Isonzo Photographic Club (Ci.Fi.). His photographic studio immediately became a point of reference for lovers of photography and for those seeking technical advice or an exchange of opinions. He illustrated with his wonderful photos many books: Gorizia e l'Isontino (1980), Gorizia e il mondo di ieri by Sergio Tavano (1991), Gorizia verso il nuovo millennio (1995), Alberi a Gorizia by Giorgio Guzzon (1996), Panorama di Gorizia. Chronicles and memoirs of which he was co-author with Marina Bressan (1996). His photos are exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York. The Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Gorizia keeps part of its archives, more than twenty thousand slides of Gorizia and of the isontine and regional territory.Giuseppe Assirelli died in Gorizia on 17th May 1998.
