DI IORIO MARIO ( 1958 - 1999)

The family moved shortly after Mario's birth to Gorizia. He attended the Art Institute of the Isonzo capital where he had Cesare Mocchiutti as a teacher and, later, the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, painting course of Emilio Vedova. He is an assistant professor of Anatomy at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and painting assistant at the Brera Academy in Milan. The first solo exhibition of Mario Di Iorio dates back to 1975. 

The painter, seventeen years old, exhibits at the Art Gallery "Il Torchio" in via Mameli in Gorizia. From that moment the personal exhibitions and the presence at important national and international collective exhibitions are so numerous that they cannot be summarized in a few lines. He exhibits in Trieste, Treviso, Milan, Pordenone, Venice, Villach (Austria), Udine, Gradisca d'Isonzo, Ljubljana, Pordenone, Bibione, Nova Milanese, Ronchi dei Legionari, San Michele al Tagliamento, Vigonza. In the spring of 1999, the "Studio Clocchiatti" Gallery in Udine hosted the solo exhibition "La Strategia dell'Istante", curated by Francesca Agostinelli. On July 9, at dawn, Mario Di Iorio decides to take his own life. In 2001 the painter is remembered with a large exhibition in the rooms of the Regional Art Gallery "Spazzapan" of Gradisca d'Isonzo. "Mario Di Iorio - Dentro l'Emozione" is the title chosen by the curator Franca Marri. From 2004 to 2009 there are important personal exhibitions of the deceased artist: at the Town Hall of Moraro; at the "Refectory" Caucigh of Udine; "Homage to Mario Di Iorio" at the Gallery "La Piazzetta" of Udine; "Mario Di Iorio - Le carte nascoste" State Library Isontina of Gorizia; "Tra Segno e Gesto" Civic Centre of Cervignano (Udine); "Dire a volta l'Indicibile". "La Grande Pittura" Provincial Museums of Borgo Castello di Gorizia; "Lo Sguardo Altrove" headquarters of the Cultural Association "Prologo" di Gorizia. 

The Brera Academy of Fine Arts pays tribute to its teacher by setting up an exhibition of drawings in the Library of the prestigious institution. In 2004 Emanuela Galli graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts with a thesis entitled "Mario Di Iorio, la Forma del Sentimento" available at the Isontina State Library of Gorizia. In 2009, edited by Francesca Agostinelli, the book "Mario Di Iorio - Frammenti di un'Autobiografia" was published by Campanotto Editore, series "Le Carte Nascoste" directed by Federico Santini. On the proposal of the Director Dr Marco Menato, the exhibition room of the Biblioteca Statale Isontina in Gorizia is dedicated to the memory of Mario Di Iorio.
