EXCELLENCES OF THE RIGHT-ISONZO: GIOVANNI BIGOT AND HIS METHOD OF ASSESSING VINEYARDS
A territory, ours, that must learn to make a critical mass, recognize its own identities and excellence without being swallowed up by the - very strong - appetites of its neighbours. In addition to the Cormons Gubana, we would like to point out the enterprise of another Cormons man, the agronomist Giovanni Bigot, who, after years of studies and observations, has developed and patented a scientific and innovative method of evaluating the quality potential of a vineyard, taking into account the viticultural factors that have a direct influence on the quality of the wine: production, foliage, the relationship between leaves and production, grape health, bunch type, water stress, vigour, biodiversity and microorganisms, age of the vineyard. Giovanni Bigot presented a preview of the Index at a meeting held at the Castello di Cigognola in Oltrepò Pavese, during which there were interesting presentations by the producer Angelo Gaja and Stefano Poni, professor at the Catholic University of Piacenza. The main objective of the Bigot Index is to give winegrowers an objective method for the synthetic evaluation of the quality potential of a vineyard, taking into account the 9 most important agronomic parameters that are individually recognized internationally as quality factors.
