"Colour is everything to her, and she uses and uses it keeping faith with her own sensibility that only incidentally accepts the post-cubistic suggestions that here and there seem to appear in her work, without however affecting too much the personal freedom of the painter". So writes Carlo Mulinelli, director of the Civic Museums of Cividale del Friuli, in 1970 on the painting of Gianna Marini. Also in 1970, Candido Grassi affirmed that it is necessary to take a good look at the paintings of the artist from Cormonese, "her landscapes that are born from dreams, with compact, primitive, essential trees; in sunsets or moonlit nights where the symbol prevails more than the image".... He began to exhibit at the end of the 1950s. In 1958 he took part in the 3rd National Youth Art Exhibition at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome; from 1959 to 1961 he took part in important national awards: the Suzzara Award, where he won an award, the "Michetti" Award of Francavilla al Mare, and the 13th Triennale d'Arte Triveneta in Padua.
In 1968 she was invited to the 2nd Friuli Venezia Giulia Art Triennale in Gradisca d'Isonzo. Since 1970 Gianna Marini has exhibited in numerous exhibitions and participated in the cultural activity of the Friulian Plastic Arts Centre: she lived directly the experience of the Stays among artists in the Carinthian town of Hermagor; in 1972 she was invited to the 5th Intart Mostra d'Arte Interregionale Friuli Venezia Giulia, Carinthia, Slovenia in Udine and to the Regional Exhibition of Sacred Art held in the Gallery of the Friulian Plastic Arts Centre in Udine. She exhibited at the 3rd Biennial of the Alps in Arta Terme in 1973 and, in the same year, she took part in the Collective of Friulian Artists in Thionville (F) and in the itinerant exhibition in Australia promoted by the Friuli in the World. In 1975 he exhibited his paintings at the exhibition "Women and Society - Exhibition of Contemporary Artists" at the Municipal Art Hall of Palazzo Costanzi in Trieste and in 1978 at the "International Exhibition of Contemporary Artists" promoted by the Obalne Galerije in Piran (Slo) and was also present at the Exhibition of Friulian Artists in Canada organized by the Friulian Plastic Arts Centre. She is invited by the Province of Gorizia to the exhibition "The Arts in Gorizia in the second half of the 20th century" hosted in the historical Gallery of the F. A. P. Centre in via Stringher in Udine; in 1990 she wins the 2nd Prize ex aequo at the Painting Prize "Goccia di Carnia" in Udine; in 1993 she participates in the exhibition of the D.A.R.S. group "Parole e silenzi" at the Museum of the City of Udine. He joined the three-year project "La Croce" elaborated by the Cultural Artistic Association of F.V.G. "Aura" and exhibited in the church of San Francesco in Cividale del Friuli, in the church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Udine and in the halls of the Town Hall of Venzone (Udine). Other, important, presences since 2001: "Opere svelate. From the history of the Regional Gallery of Contemporary Art Luigi Spazzapan" to the "Spazzapan" Gallery of Gradisca d'Isonzo; "Ars Friulana 3" to the Insula Gallery of Izola (Slo); "Works of the Regional Collection" in the spaces of the Palace of the Regional Council of Trieste; " Gorizia_Gorica. Documents of art in the Isonzo area since the Second World War" at the Provincial Museums of Borgo Castello and at the Kulturni Dom of Gorizia by Lorenzo Micheli. From 1961 to the present day, Gianna Marini has staged about fifty Personal Exhibitions in the most prestigious public and private galleries of the region. Of great importance are the two anthologies staged in 2005 at the Regional Gallery of Contemporary Art "Spazzapan" in Gradisca d'Isonzo entitled "Poetry of Light" and in 2009 at the Museo Civico del Territorio of Palazzo Locatelli in Cormons, with the title "The light between dream and reality". From 1971 to 2003 he exhibited at 33 Social Exhibitions promoted by the Friulian Plastic Arts Centre in Udine and from 1991 to 2004 at 14 editions of the "Small Format Exhibition" organized by the "Rettori Trebbio 2" Gallery in Trieste. Recently the Pinacoteca dei Musei Provinciali of Palazzo Attems in Gorizia bought a group of works by the painter from Cremona.
