BETWEEN BELLE EPOQUE AND '45: THE YOUNG PEOPLE LEAVE...

21/01/2020

Wouldn't it be time to ask ourselves and ask especially the political forces in Gorizia what they mean by "international vocations" in Gorizia, net of consolatory slogans dating back to the Belle Epoque?

A very easy answer at a time when a thousand-year-old tradition has been thrown to the net in homage to a closed narrative, focused on the tragedies of the twentieth century, so much so that even today among the few things that excite the minds and media reports are complaints dating back to 1945, the year on which the city's debate revolves. But 75 years have passed! If there is no future for young people, let those who govern the fate of our institutions say so instead of grasping at straws or filling the internet with rewarding and useless selfishness. So international role: the best thing in recent times is the Slovenian initiative of the European city of culture, on which Gorizia clings like the raft of the Medusa, without being able to put together the other institutions on a project that aims in a rational way to 2025 and make feel the weight of the Italian city that for structures and traditions could give an original impulse to the initiative. In the meantime, other Slovenian cities are applying, not least Piran that has had the competitive support of Trieste, snubbing us badly, as it almost always happens.

Let's think about projects that should be inspired by the peculiarities of Gorizia and that should provide, with the help of the FVG Region, the revival of those relationships that have made Gorizia over the centuries the centre of an area much larger than its former province, and that with an epicentre on our Castle, go from Istria to Tyrol, from Treviso to Maribor, obviously passing through Aquileia. A project that takes into account the structures that resurrect after fifteen years of total oblivion such as the Conference Center or the Exhibition Centre, or all those catafalques among which we also put Ville Louise (but where is its restoration? Do we have to ask the Ater of Udine?), Villa Frommer, the former Bank of Italy, the former Public Baths, that Covered Market that in a key of international revival should be at the centre of an agreement between Collio and Brda, or further away from Italy, the FVG region and Slovenia.
